Grades from Veabird's beach forecast; each line written by AI (Muse Spark) and checked against the forecast. Higher is better: A+ to F.

The Bahamas, Cuba's Cays and Turks & Caicos are very low with 0% heavy today Saturday Oct 3 and steady over the next 7 days, near typical for October. For the week of Sep 28, 2026, they include the clearest exposed beaches among 985 beaches tracked.

Avoid Riviera Maya, Punta Cana & East Coast and Holguín Coast, all very high and steady and above typical, with 100% heavy except Holguín Coast at 94% heavy. They are part of 420 of 985 beaches with high or very high seaweed today Saturday Oct 3.

Conditions are steady over the next 7 days across tracked destinations. The typical season ahead is heaviest in Costa Maya & Bacalar in November and in Punta Cana & East Coast in December and January, so plan October travel around very low destinations.

How good is the model?

Veabird's sargassum model is trained on NOAA AOML satellite detections (2016–2024), winds and currents, and tested on later years it never saw (2025, 2026).

MeasureValueWhat it means
Discrimination (AUC)0.79How often a beach that got heavy seaweed was ranked above one that didn't (0.5 = coin flip, 1 = perfect).
Skill vs climatology9%Improvement in probability accuracy over just using the typical season.
Test examples13,325Beach-weeks in the held-out test years.

About this report

This week's sargassum (seaweed) forecast beach by beach: where it is heavy, where it is clear, the trend and the season ahead, from Veabird's satellite-trained model. It comes out every Monday and covers the Mexican Caribbean, the Caribbean islands, Central America's Caribbean coast, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. Grades run from A+ (best) to F; they weigh the things that make or break a trip, not just the weather.

Sources: NOAA AOML Atlantic sargassum satellite data (AFAI); Veabird sargassum model (winds, currents, satellite history); Open-Meteo winds. Forecasts are estimates, not safety guidance.
