How places are graded
- Weather (the biggest weight): comfortable daytime highs for the activity, wet days, heavy rain, wind, and cold nights for camping.
- Bugs: each place's mosquito and black-fly season, made worse by warm, wet weather and better after frost.
- Stars: dark-sky quality (light pollution), clouds on your dates and the moon.
- Crowds: how busy the park usually is that month, with holiday weekends worse.
- Calm: remoteness and quiet, minus wind. Nature: scenery and wildlife.
- Fall color: how close your dates are to the typical peak. Fishing, canoeing, biking, hiking: how good the place is for each, adjusted for season (ice, snow, low water).
